Did you know that in the United States, the modern Mother's Day holiday was first celebrated in 1914? President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation on May 9th designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day! He asked all Americans to take the time to give a public “thank you” to their moms, and to truly honor the role and hard work of all mothers collectively.

May was chosen as the month to celebrate Mother's Day because it is a time when spring is in full bloom and flowers are abundant. Perhaps that is why the traditional gift of flowers on Mother’s Day remains so meaningful.

Overall, Mother's Day is a time to recognize and honor the love, sacrifice, and dedication of mothers everywhere. It is a day to express gratitude for all that they do and to show them how much they are appreciated.
